Paolo De Grandis Meets the Students of the Singapore Academy
Paolo De Grandis and Prof. Kwok Kian Chow met yesterday at the Pietà Institute for a walk through the halls of Andorra, Mauritius and Mongolia pavilions and a talk with the young students of the Academy of Singapore about the history of the Venice Biennale. It was an encounter for reflections and comparisons on the new Biennials, and a review on the history of PDG Arte Communications and its 118 exhibitions within the Venice Bienniale. The focus moved later to Singapore, which debuted in the Biennial curated by Paolo De Grandis in 2001. Since then, PDG Arte Communications coordinated the two subsequent participations in the Biennale d'Arte and the entrance at the Architecture Biennale in 2004.
The connection with Singapore and in particular with Prof. Kwok Kian Chow was born in 2000 with the participation of the artist Chye Tech Chua at the 3rd edition of OPEN, International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations. The next four editions of OPEN presented the works of Sun Yu-li, Ye Shufang, Tan Kai Syng and Tan Swie Hian.
